The Season

Waltzing somnambulists lend beauty and grace,
swathed in white taffeta or embroidered lace,
heads newly dressed in diamante pins,
naked faces covered by beauticians.
Affluence congregates at the Banqueting Hall
brood mares of wealth for traditional men
gladly sacrificed at the coming out ball
drawn like moths to the glittering light
Public School fumbling can’t satisfy them,
an upper middle class marriage blight
wilts them like daisies in pitch-black night.
